Later, in 1888, a schoolroom was added at a cost of £200. A stone-laying ceremony was held on September 10, at which 11 stones bearing inscriptions were laid. These stones are still evident. During the 1890s the congregation was growing rapidly and more space was needed for the worshippers. The expense of land purchase and the building costs prohibited a new structure, so additions and alterations were made to the chapel. To finance this, a number of events were held - gift days, bazaars, socials and recitals. The most conspicuous event lasted two days and included decorations of 2,000 carnations. The sum raised was £113.
