Eventually, in 1970, a complete modernisation took place - an old "Prim" would now hold up his hands in amazement. Interestingly, the pine wood from the old chapel was used to fashion the Communion table and rail and the pulpit - the old into the new. Now, we have efficient central heating, long-life, low-energy light bulbs, an amplification system, padded chairs and carpet. As for "the tin hut" and the new halls, they are incorporated into our premises "over the road" above Somerfield supermarket.Yet, as ever, the church at Southdown remains "the people of God witnessing in the community".
The congregation is always looking forward, that is why the Church building refurbishment in March 2008 has made it more accessible and a pleasant meeting point in Southdown.
